New York City Ballet 2023-2024 Season (2024)

In honor of its 75th anniversary, the New York City Ballet 2023-2024 season at the David H. Koch Theater has been broken into segments that illustrate the company’s commitment to creating a distinctive ballet repertory.

The 2023 Fall season, which runs from September 15 through October 15, 2023, has been titled “To Explore the Foundation of NYCB’s Unparalleled Repertory” and is solely dedicated to its founding father George Balanchine. Of note are his iconic Jewels and the 75th anniversary program which features a recreation of the company’s very first performance (held on October 11, 1948) with Concerto Barocco, Orpheus, and Symphony in C.

The 2024 Winter and Spring seasons which run from January 23 through March, 2024 and April 23 through June 2, 2023, respectively, are “To Explore the Evolution and Future of the Company’s Repertory”. Twenty-five “landmark works” by Balanchine and Jerome Robbins as well as world premieres by Amy Hall Garner, Justin Peck, Tiler Peck, and Alexei Ratmansky highlight the first half of 2024.

A total of over 60 ballets during 160 performances will be performed over the course of the 25-week New York City Ballet 2023-2024 season under the artistic leadership of Artistic Director Jonathan Stafford, Associate Artistic Director Wendy Whelan, Resident Choreographer and Artistic Advisor Justin Peck, and incoming Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky.

“In creating this 75th anniversary celebration for New York City Ballet, we wanted to explore the great riches of our repertory, from the incredible foundation provided by the landmark works of both Balanchine and Robbins, to the many contemporary classics that were created on NYCB’s dancers and are now performed by ballet companies around the world,” said Stafford and Whelan.

“We are thrilled to continue NYCB’s extraordinary commitment to new choreography with 75th anniversary World Premiere ballets by Justin Peck and Alexei Ratmansky, and two new works by Tiler Peck and Amy Hall Garner, both of whom will be making the first-ever works for NYCB.”

New York City Ballet will also be touring to the Harris Theater in Chicago, Illinois, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Upstate New York, and Sadler’s Wells in London.

A 2024 Great Performances nationwide broadcast will feature the U.S. premiere of “New York City Ballet in Madrid” – Balanchine’s Serenade and Square Dance and Justin Peck’s The Times Are Racing – recorded at the Teatro Real in March 2023.
